Malls were among the first few establishments to be closed after the second wave of Covid-19 spread peaked. When they reopened, there were restrictions on timings and capacity and their biggest attractions such as restaurants were running to reduced seating and timing while cinemas are still closed.

This is going to be a long recovery for them. However, since their reopening on June 7, things have not been as bad as they were predicted to be.

Yogeshwar Sharma of Select Citywalk has witnessed a steady increase in the number of footfall. In terms of a month by month comparison, he says, it is better than last year’s numbers. “Consumer sentiment shows that people are confident and comfortable stepping out of their houses and coming to the mall with safety precautions. Vaccination has been an important factor in boosting confidence,” Sharma explains.
